What was everybody's thought on the RNC? Last night's finale in my opinion was a snooze fest. It's almost like the Republican party isn't even trying. Cindy's McCain's speech was robotic, reading from the prompter, almost no emotion. John McCain was the same thing I felt, I don't know if you noticed, but at the pinnacle of his speech he attempted to rally his supporters with the "Stand Up and Fight" exchange. As the camera panned around the auditorium I saw an entire section still seated, one guy reading what looked like a program, another guy yawning and the rest were stuck in a "courtesy" clap. These are all his strongest supporters. I watched it on CNN last night, Jeffery Toobin's take after the speech calling it the worst speech since Carter was pretty harsh, I'm too young to remember Carter's speech, but It certainly was the "worst speech" I've ever heard.This culminated with Giuliani and Palins' diatribe from a couple of nights ago, I'm calling the RNC a failure.

The film, �Slacker Uprising,� follows Moore�s 62-city tour during the 2004 election to rally young voters. It will be available for three weeks as a free download to North American residents, beginning Sept. 23. An official announcement of the film is planned for Friday.

Anybody catch wind of what was going on last night on TV? There was some odd event happening on all the channels last night, I counted at least 8 channels showing the same thing. It was a bunch of rich blue hair elderly and cowboys hanging around a concert hall, listening to Tina Fey being a racist, then some kid licked a baby and finally at the end the crypt keeper came out and said hi to everyone - it was weird. Anybody know what's going on?

Bank of China flees Fannie-Freddie

Bank of China has cut its portfolio of securities issued or guaranteed by troubled US mortgage financiers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac by a quarter since the end of June.

The sale by China�s fourth largest commercial bank, which reduced its holdings of so-called agency debt by $4.6bn, is a sign of nervousness among foreign buyers of Fannie and Freddie�s bonds and guaranteed securities.

Iraq May Sign Ahdab Oil Field Contract With China (Update1)

Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Iraq's Oil Minister Hussain al- Shahristani will visit Beijing at the end of this week to conclude a contract to develop the Ahdab oil field with a unit of China National Petroleum Corp., an official at the ministry said.

The contract may be signed after al-Shahristani meets officials from China National's Al Waha Petroleum Co. unit, the official, who declined to be identified for security reasons, said by telephone yesterday. The government has said the Ahdab field in southern Iraq may produce about 90,000 barrels a day.

If concluded, China National will be the first foreign company to win exploration rights from the central government in Baghdad since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.

China's largest oil producer was awarded the field in 1997 and Iraq is renegotiating contracts that former President Saddam Hussein's regime had signed with international oil companies. Iraq has this year been negotiating technical service contracts with companies such as BP Plc, as it seeks to boost output to levels attained before the war.
